Spring, summer, autumn, and

Winter practice their routines

Outside my humble home.

Spring heralds new beginnings;

Summer brings great pleasures;

Autumn colors the landscape;

Winter tests nature’s resolve.

Oaks, maples, and evergreens

Like cedars, pines, and others

Create an emerald background

For all the homes in the valley.

In the warm days of the spring,

Grass wakes up from its slumber;

Trees ornate with tender leaves;

Bulbs sprout from underground;

Wildflowers weave carpets;

The trees and bushes blossom;

Flowers of many hues sparkle;

Irresistible fragrances fill the air.

Bees get busy buzzing around;

Butterflies flutter among flowers

While hummingbirds hover above;

Migratory birds visit from afar;

Pretty birds make fancy nests;

Animals and birds raise their young.

The spring turns into summer;

Plenty of sunshine ushers in;

Summer landscape becomes lush;

The creeks in the woods babble

And support many forms of life.

The cold days eventually set in

To welcome the autumn hues;

The green leaves turn colors into

Yellow, orange, red, and brown,

Turning the valley into a Hudson

River School-style masterpiece.

The fall flowers and pumpkins

Steal the limelight for a while.

Then the frost comes and rings in

The death knell for the vegetation.

Soon comes powdery snow that

Crowns the bushes and boughs;

A veneer of white snow blankets

The knolls, dells, and rills around;

The whole landscape adorns a

Serene snow-white bridal gown;

The onslaught of snowstorms

Adds to the winter misery…
